  • SX-EW operators — Kitui ore’s oxide, sulfur-poor profile is a direct match for leach–solvent-extraction–electrowinning processing, without a smelting step.
  • Ore traders — aggregated, formula-priced parcels with independent assay backing, suited to onward trade.
  • Eventual cathode consumers — as INFO MEMA’s own beneficiation capacity comes online, refined LME Grade-A cathode is the roadmap destination.

Domestic Kenyan buyers, the wider East African market, and international buyers reached via export through the port of Mombasa, under the applicable Mineral Export Permit for each consignment.

The oxide-copper case

Kitui’s copper occurs mainly as malachite and azurite — oxide/carbonate minerals, not primary sulfides — hosted in metagabbro and metagranite of the Neoproterozoic Mozambique Belt. This is independently corroborated by a 2026 academic structural study of the adjacent Kwa Mutonga–Vonza area (Kitonga et al., East African Journal of Environment and Natural Resources), and by INFO MEMA’s own field and laboratory assays, which show sulfur consistently below 0.5% across every sample taken.

That combination — oxide mineralisation, negligible sulfur — is what makes a leach–SX-EW route the right fit, rather than flotation or smelting, and it is why INFO MEMA’s roadmap is built around that process from the outset.
